How to prevent motorcycle accidents

On Behalf of | Jan 6, 2021 | Blog, Car Accidents

It can be dangerous to drive a motorcycle on windy, wet, or snowy Washington roads. However, motorcycles also come with extremely good brakes and no obstructions to block a driver’s view. So, why do so many riders tend to get themselves into an accident? Read on to learn more about how you can prevent yourself from being involved in a motorcycle accident.

Cars turning left

Perhaps the most common reason why riders get into a motorcycle accident is due to a car turning left after failing to spot them on the road. If you are too close, then it’s simply too late to do anything. However, you may be able to prevent this concern by recognizing the danger before it presents itself. As a motorcyclist, your responsibility is to create a sort of a 6th sense where you know how a driver is going to act by his or her actions.

Gravel on the road

Most motorcycle slips occur due to gravel on the road. Tires simply cannot gain enough traction, and thus the driver falls over. If you see upcoming gravel and there is no way to avoid it, then you need to begin to break slowly. Slamming on your brakes is never a good idea as your bike won’t have enough traction to slow down, and thus you may be thrown off your bike.

Being hit from the back

When two cars collide, being hit from the back at 25 miles per hour usually ends up in a bent bumper and nothing more. However, riders can be killed at that impact speed. The best way to prevent an accident from occurring is to give yourself a cushion. This involves riding to the front of another car (wave them thanks) to allow yourself some cushion if another driver is not paying attention.

If you were the victim of a road accident, it is important to consult with an attorney before taking any other action. An attorney may provide you with the best legal route to take.
