Semi rear-ends sedan, killing one and injuring three

Semi-trucks sometimes appear to be the monsters of the Interstate Highway System. They are far larger than the passenger vehicles that use the interstate, and they often cause serious accidents if their drivers are not in complete control. A recent car accident on I-5 near Conway, was apparently caused by the driver of a semi who failed to slow in time.

According to police who investigated the incident, an SUV and a car were heading north on I-5. The drivers slowed at the Conway exit, but the driver of a semi-truck traveling behind the two vehicles did not. The semi slammed into the SUV and pushed it into the car. The woman driving the SUV suffered fatal injuries, and the passenger in the vehicle was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The two people in the car were taken to a local hospital. Police did not state whether the driver of the semi suffered any injuries.

The cause of the accident is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing, and police officers say criminal charges are pending. Officers have said that they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were involved. The initial reports of the accident make it appear that the driver of the semi may be largely at fault. Nevertheless, other possible explanations may be found, such as mechanical failure of the truck, work rules that were overly onerous or the failure of tail lights on one or both of the vehicles that were hit.

Anyone who has been injured or has lost a loved one in a multiple vehicle accident may wish to consult an experienced attorney for an evaluation of the evidence and an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
